About Us

Hi, my name is Shannon Sullivan and I am also a sophomore at the University of Massachusetts Amherst but I am originally a transfer student from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut.  I am studying Journalism with a minor in Psychology as well.  At school I like to do community service, and most recently I participated in the Bowl For Kids function for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Foundation.  I enjoy hanging out with my friends, watching movies like The Dark Knight trilogy, running, and listening to music.  I was on an intramural volleyball team at UMass, and that was a cool thing to try because I'd never played before.  I also am a lifeguard so I like to spend a lot of my free time outside and at the beach.

I live in Groveland, Massachusetts and have resided there all of my life.  It is a small town and had a regional high school which I did not attend.  I went to a private catholic high school in Lawrence, Massachusetts called Central Catholic High School.  Going to school there changed my life and definitely had a huge impact on changing me into the person I am today.  My high school was in the city, and I liked all the rushing and craziness, so it has influenced me to want to move to New York or Boston after I graduate in 2015.  I am still a bit undecided on what I want to do once I graduate, but I love writing and meeting new people which I why I chose to major in Journalism.

Welcome readers! My name is Sofia Picatoste and I'm a sophomore, otherwise known as Division II student, at Hampshire College located in Amherst, Mass. I'm studying journalism and creative writing, while focusing on our changing media and multicultural perspectives. My goal to be a journalist relates to my own desire to learn about personal life stories, historical events, and issues. I also have always enjoyed traveling out of the country and hope to write worldwide stories overseas in field studies. I plan on doing this when I study abroad, which will most likely be in Spain or somewhere in Latin America.

Home for me is northern New Jersey. I grew up in a small town called Cedar Grove, and have also lived in Montclair which is more well known. I live only a 25 minute train ride away from NYC, and plan on living in the city in hopes of getting an internship for the summer. My high school was DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, NJ, where we were known as the Spartans. I volunteered and did community service with others from my high school, at children's centers and nursing homes. I enjoy being updated on the news around me, as well as running outside, watching weird movies, practicing yoga, and writing of course!

Hi readers! My name is Alyxandra Rivard and I am a sophomore at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I am a double major in Communications and Journalism with a minor in Psychology. Also, I am a proud member of the UMass Women’s Hockey Team. A few weeks ago we won our FIRST EVER, in the history of UMass Women’s Ice Hockey, regional championship in Rhode Island. We also just returned from Nationals in Virginia, where we came in fourth place after a tiring five games.

Studying and hockey keeps me very busy, but when I have down time I like to hang out with my friends, watch movies and download new music. I am an absolute music fanatic! Basically everything I do is done with music playing. Whether I’m doing homework, walking to class or getting ready for a big game, you can almost guarantee the newest songs in R&B, rap and hip-hop are blasting through my headphones.

I was born and raised all, almost, 20 years of my life in Burlington, Vt. where almost my entire immediate family currently resides. There is no overlooking Vermont and its undeniable beauty, however I am looking to begin my life after graduation in a warmer, faster-paced environment, complete with an array of beaches. As of now, I have my sights set on sunny Southern California where I hope to pursue my dream in public relations, news reporting or radio broadcasting. Keep an eye out for me!
